Foxy Lady peaked at no 29 on the Go-Set National Top 40 on 6 March 1968.
Music critic Thomas Ward points out “if one song could be said to encapsulate Hendrix’s entire oeuvre, ‘Foxy Lady’ is certainly closer than most.” The song opens with a fingered note “shaken in a wide exaggerated vibrato” so the adjacent strings are sounded.
In the booklet for the Experience Hendrix CD, Hendrix was quoted as saying this was the only happy song he had ever written. He said that he usually just didn’t feel happy when writing songs.
This song is also on our Spotify playlist.
