Spill the Wine entered the Kent charts on 31 August 1970 and peaked at #2. It was the #19 song on the Top 100 of 1970.

The song was on Eric Burdon Declares “War” which entered the Kent album charts on 9 November 1970 and peaked at #9.

Formed in 1969, War is a musical crossover band that fuses elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, and reggae. According to music writer Colin Larkin, their “potent fusion of funk, R&B, rock and Latin styles produced a progressive soul sound”.

The lady speaking Spanish in the background was Eric Burdon’s girlfriend. Harold Brown, drummer and founding member of War, said: “We went back there and we put up a little tent, candlelight, and some wine back there. They were behind there, and Eric was doing things to her and making her talk.”
