This day in 1982, Rod Stewart was shockingly mugged and robbed while standing beside his $50,000 Porsche on Hollywood Boulevard.

Tuesday 27 April

Peter Ham from Badfinger was born on this day in 1947. He sadly took his life just three days before turning 28.
Ace Frehley, formerly with Kiss, is 70 today and Aussie singer Mark Holden is not far behind at 67.

Who attended a concert or event at Festival Hall in Brisbane? It opened this day in 1959. And Ringo Starr married his second wife Barbara Bach on this day in 1981.

Remember Morticia in the 1960s Addams Family TV show? Actress Carolyn Jones was born on this day in 1930.


Thursday 29 April

Tommy James who had the band The Shondells is 74 today and Eve Plumb (“Oh Jan”) of The Brady Bunch is 63.

On this day in 1967, Johnny Franham was “discovered” by manager Darryl Sambell following a performance with Strings Unlimited at the Cohuna Town Hall in Victoria. He went solo two months later and had his first hit with Sadie (The Cleaning Lady).

Friday 30 April

Willie Nelson is 88 today and Max Merritt, who sadly died just last year, was born on this day in 1941. He would have turned 80 today.

Saturday 1 May

From the ’60s to the ’80s we watched actor John Meillon on TV and in films. He was born this day in 1934. Remember John’s voice on the Victoria Bitter ads?
A hard-earned thirst needs a big cold beer… and the best cold beer is… the one John Meillon speaks about so poetically in the clip below.

Roy Orbison‘s first single Ooby Dooby was released on this day in 1956, and Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu in Las Vegas in 1967.

For those who loved the camp old Batman TV show, the Caped Crusader made his comic strip debut in America’s Detective Comics (volume 1, issue #27) in 1939.


Sunday 2 May

Lesley Gore was born on this day in 1946. She was just 17 when she had her first hit It’s My Party.
Cream reunited for four shows after 37 years – the first of them on this day in 2005.

How many of us pushed a Victa mower around our lawns? The patent was lodged by Mervyn Victor Richardson on this day in 1955. It only took him a few years to become a millionaire!
