Wikipedia:
Kincade was an English band that recorded the hit single Dreams are Ten a Penny, although the band itself did not exist at the time. The song was written by John Carter and his wife Gill. Carter also sang all the vocals and played the guitar on the record.
To promote the song, the label recruited John Knowles as the frontman for Kincade since Carter was reluctant to tour. Knowles was successful as the frontman for Kincade and went on to change his name to John Kincade.
