Eat at Home and Smile Away were double A-sides in Australia, the record entering the Kent charts on 16 August 1971 and peaked at #21.

The songs were on Ram which entered the Kent album charts on 5 July 1971 and peaked at #3.

The Beatles Bible:
One of five co-written songs on Paul and Linda McCartney’s 1971 album Ram, Eat At Home was written about their love of domestic life together.
In 1975 Paul McCartney was asked about the song, and said it was “a plea for home cooking – it’s obscene”. Certainly the lyrics are a barely-disguised come-on, with eating used as a euphemism for sex.

SMILE AWAY:

The Beatles Bible:
Paul McCartney was known to be depressed following the break-up of The Beatles, and found solace in music and the love of Linda. The chorus – a repetition of the title – was McCartney with his head held high, finding positivity in spite of the insults of his various friends.
