You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth entered the Kent Music Report on 6 February 1978 and peaked at #3. The song was #14 on the Top 100 of 1978.
The song is on Bat Out of Hell which entered the Kent Music Report album charts on 23 January 1978. It reached #1 on 19 June 1978 and remained there for 8 weeks.
Like all of the songs on Bat Out Of Hell, this was written by the late Jim Steinman, a songwriter/producer with a very theatrical style that came through on this track. Like Paradise By the Dashboard Light, it is a story of young lust, but with a far more satisfying ending for our hero. Set on a hot summer night under the moonlight on a deserted beach, he finds himself so entranced with his flame that he can’t even say the words “I Love You,” as he is overcome with desire. It’s a song of pure passion, which is classic Steinman.
