Friday on My Mind entered the Kent charts on 19 November 1966 and was a #1 hit. The song was #10 on the Top 100 of 1966.
The song was released in Australia on The Best of the Easybeats + Pretty Girls which entered the Kent album charts on 10 June 1967 and peaked at #3.
On 28 May 2001, the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) celebrated its 75th anniversary by naming the Best Australian Songs of all time, as decided by a 100 strong industry panel, with Friday on My Mind being selected as the number one song on the list.

This song was co-written by Easybeats guitarists George Young and Harry Vanda, who were the primary songwriters in the group (Young is the older brother of Malcolm and Angus Young from AC/DC). Vanda described the song as reminiscent of the days where the band members lived in hostels in Sydney as “new Australians.” They would hang out for the end of the week because that’s when the fun began.
