I Remember You was published in 1941 with music by Victor Schertzinger and lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It was introduced in the film The Fleet’s In (1942), in which it was sung by Dorothy Lamour backed by the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.
The song’s chart success came when Australian singer Frank Ifield recorded it in May 1962. It was a #1 hit in Australia and the UK, and #5 in the USA.
The Beatles covered the song on stage early in their career, as recorded on an amateur taping made at the Star Club in Hamburg in December 1962.
