A new recording of Jolene by Olivia Newton-John was released posthumously in February 2023, ahead of her Victorian State Memorial. Some time before her death, Olivia teamed up with Dolly Parton to record a duet performance of Dolly’s hit Jolene.
Olivia died in August 2022 at her ranch in southern California, aged 73, surrounded by family and friends.
Jolene, written by Parton, was first recorded by her in 1973 and was covered three years later by Olivia. And now, here they are together.
“I am so excited to be working with Olivia Newton-John, one of my favourites of all time,” Dolly said in the video.
The single Jolene is from an album released in 2023 on which Olivia sings duets with artists like Mariah Carey, Michael McDonald, John Travolta, Jon Secada and Barry Gibb.
The 17-track album is Just the Two of Us: The Duets Collection. It includes Mariah Carey joining Olivia for Hopelessly Devoted to You, from a television special recorded in Melbourne.
Dolly’s original recording: Jolene – Dolly Parton
