Cool World was one of four singles to be released from the Chemistry album – the others being State of the Heart, Chemistry and Summer of ’81. Most tracks on the album were written by Eric McCusker but Cool World was composed by Ross Wilson.
At the 1981 Countdown Australian Music Awards, the Chemistry album, produced by Mark Moffatt, won Best Australian Album; Eric McCusker won Best Australian Songwriter; Cool World was nominated for Best Australian Single; Mark Moffatt was nominated for Best Australian Producer; and Mondo Rock was nominated for Most Consistent Live Act.
