Wikipedia:
Queenslander Ross D Wyllie first performed with the Kodiaks before stepping out as a solo singer and moving to Melbourne.
In 1967 Ross became the host of a new pop music TV show, Uptight, for Melbourne’s ATV 0 (now channel 10). He hit the charts twice in 1969, first with his cover of Ray Stevens’ song, Funny Man, then The Star, written by Johnny Young.
In 1970 Uptight was replaced on Channel 0 by a pop music series, Happening ’70, with Wyllie retained as host. He returned to Brisbane late that year and was replaced on Happening ’71 by Jeff Phillips.

Lyrics:
Look-a there, there he goes
Ha, there goes the funny man
The life of the party, that′s me
And they’d never guess
That I had a care
They′d be amazed to see me cry
When the party’s through
Cry over you
