Wikipedia:
It’s a Heartache, written by Bonnie Tyler’s managers Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, was one of the first recordings the Welsh singer made following a surgical procedure to remove nodules from her vocal folds. The procedure left her with an “unusually husky voice”.
Five singles were released from Natural Force. The second single, It’s a Heartache, is among the best-selling singles of all time, with sales of more than 6 million copies. It made #1 in Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Brazil and Argentina, #4 in the UK, #3 in the US, and #2 in Germany.
It’s a Heartache has been covered many times by a diverse list of artists including Rod Stewart, Juice Newton, Gene Pitney, David Johanson (of the New York Dolls), Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes, and pop superstar Miley Cyrus.
