Wikipedia & Songfacts:
Loves Me Like a Rock by Paul Simon features background vocals by the Dixie Hummingbirds. The Southern black gospel group released their own version of the song on their album We Love You Like A Rock, and toured with both Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
According to Billboard magazine, the lyrics of Loves Me Like a Rock describe “how a mother loved her son, even when he became the president” and the music has a quasi-gospel flavor. The line about the president and “the minute the Congress calls my name” seemed, however intentionally, to resonate with the big news story of the day – the Watergate investigation that brought down president Richard Nixon in disgrace.
Cash Box said that the song combines “the grace of Simon with a touch of gospel.”

Lyrics:
When I was a little boy (When I was just a boy)
And the Devil would call my name
I’d say, “Now, who do
Who do you think you’re fooling?”
