A rare duet by surviving Beatles Paul McCartney, 83, and Ringo Starr, 85, is a feature of Paul’s new album, released today.

The Boys of Dungeon Lane is the first new solo album to be released by Paul in more than five years. It is a collection of rare and revealing glimpses into memories never-before shared, along with some newly inspired love songs. In this collection, we find the veteran singer-songwriter-musician in a “candid, vulnerable and deeply reflective mood, writing with rare openness about […] the resilience of his parents, and early adventures shared with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania”.

The album includes a duet with Ringo Starr called Home to Us. Ringo shares vocals with Paul and plays drums, as the pair record together for the first time in their respective solo careers. The two surviving Beatles sing nostalgic lyrics about growing up in Liverpool. Paul said Home to Us was written “totally with Ringo in mind”.

“In writing the song, I’m talking about where we came from,” Paul said. “In common with a lot of people, you come from nothing and you build yourself up. Ringo was from the Dingle, and that was well hard. He said he used to get mugged coming home, because he worked. Even though it was crazy, it was home to us.”

Backing vocals on Home to Us were provided by Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Sharleen Spiteri from the band Texas.

The new McCartney album The Boys of Dungeon Lane lands worldwide today, including Australia, through Capitol Records. Paul plays most of the instruments on the album, which he says is his “most introspective” to date.

In his songs, we find the 83 year old in a “candid, vulnerable and deeply reflective mood, writing with rare openness about […] the resilience of his parents, and early adventures shared with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania”.
