A follow-up to their earlier Snoopy vs. the Red Baron, the song is about how Snoopy had to go out and fight the Red Baron on Christmas Eve. The Baron has Snoopy at his mercy after a long dogfight, but instead of shooting him down he forces Snoopy to land and offers Snoopy a holiday toast. Afterward, Snoopy and the Red Baron fly their separate ways, “each knowing they’d meet on some other day”.

The Royal Guardsmen’s single Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron was a huge hit, leading to three sequels: The Return of the Red Baron, Snoopy’s Christmas and Snoopy for President.
The songs were based on Snoopy the Beagle, a character in the Peanuts comic strip, which was drawn by Charles Schulz. In the strip, Snoopy had recently begun fighting the Red Baron, although it was just in his doggie imagination – the Red Baron was never actually seen in the comic.
