Wikipedia:
That’s the Way God Planned It was the breakthrough solo hit for Billy Preston, capturing his gospel roots in a rock-soul setting. The session took place at London’s Olympic Sound Studios and was produced by George Harrison, who was keen to showcase Preston’s talent outside the Beatles’ orbit. Harrison also played guitar and sang backing vocals, helping shape the song’s uplifting, communal feel.
The line-up was stacked with heavyweight musicians, including Eric Clapton on guitar, Ginger Baker on drums and Klaus Voormann on bass (some accounts make the unlikely claim that Keith Richards played bass). Preston played piano and Hammond organ. The song’s gospel-style backing vocals were sung by Doris Troy and Madeline Bell.
This recording followed Billy Preston working with The Beatles, playing keyboards during the Get Back / Let It Be sessions. His presence had a calming effect on the band at a tense time, lifting both morale and musical focus. He appears prominently on tracks including Get Back and Don’t Let Me Down.
