Wikipedia:
Darktown Strutters’ Ball was written by Shelton Brooks and published in 1917. The song has been recorded many times and is considered a popular and jazz standard. The Ted Mulry Gang released a rock ‘n’ roll version in 1976.
Ian McFarlane said the success of Jump in My Car in 1975, “set the tone for subsequent releases with its simplistic, 12-bar boogie guitar riffs, thumping beat, Mulry’s gravelly, gregarious vocals and tongue-in-cheek lyrics.” Over the next two years they achieved a string of top ten singles.
