A 50th anniversary edition of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here will be released on 12 December – half a century to the day since its original 1975 release.
The bulk of the album is taken up by Shine On You Crazy Diamond, a nine-part tribute to the Pink Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett, who had left seven years earlier due to his deteriorating mental health. Australia’s Venetta Fields sang backing vocals.
The 2025 digital release includes the original 1975 album, featuring a new Dolby Atmos mix by James Guthrie, whose work with Pink Floyd dates back to 1979’s The Wall. It also includes 25 bonus tracks made up of nine studio rarities, and 16 live recordings that have been meticulously restored and remastered. Among them is a complete 1975 concert recorded at the Los Angeles Sports Arena by famed bootlegger Mike “The Mic” Millard.
Sony says Wish You Were Here 50 will feature multiple discs of rarities, including six previously unreleased alternate versions and demos. It will be released in multiple formats including 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, digital and a Deluxe Box Set.
