British band The Tourists achieved brief success in the late 1970s before the band split in 1980. Two of its members, singer Annie Lennox and guitarist Dave Stewart, went on to international success as Eurythmics.
The Tourists’ version of the Dusty Springfield hit I Only Want to Be With You was “put down in twenty minutes at the end of the (Reality Effect) album sessions”, with Lennox recording the vocals in one take.
Lennox later said that “we were taken to the cleaners for doing that bloody song”, as “the press absolutely slaughtered us”.
