I’ll Never Smile Again, written by Ruth Lowe, became a 1940 Billboard chart-topper by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, with vocals by Frank Sinatra and The Pied Pipers. It has been recorded by many other artists since, becoming a jazz and pop standard.
The Tommy Dorsey version made #11 in Australia in 1941, as did a version by Tony Martin.
The song was covered by Australian rock group Daddy Cool and released as a single in July 1972, shortly before the group broke up. They also performed it at their farewell concert in Melbourne in August 1972, which was recorded and subsequently released as a double-album in 1973.
