History of Australian Music from 1960 until 2000:
Jonne Sands’ first success came in hometown Brisbane in 1968 with his debut single It’s Your Life. His second single, Mothers and Fathers, was his biggest nationally after it broke through in Sydney.
Jonne was a popular performer on pop music TV shows like Uptight and Bandstand. The good looking kid from Brisbane was touted to take over the music spotlight from Normie Rowe when the latter was conscripted but it never quite happened. Although six further singles followed Mothers and Fathers between then and 1973, only one other as a solo performer charted nationally: Change of Mind in 1969 peaked at #100.
In 1973 Jonne joined ’60s harmony/rock band The Executives, replacing Gino Cunnico as co-lead vocalist with Carole King. The revamped lineup continued to record and perform until 1978. Jonne and Carole were part of a briefly re-formed Executives in 1985-86.
