Wikipedia:
Mr America was written and recorded by Russell Morris and was his third top ten single. The Real Thing was written by Johnny Young, Part Three Into Paper Walls was co-written by Young and Morris and Rachel (which didn’t reach the top ten) was written by Raymond Froggatt.
Russell was wanting to earn credibility as a songwriter after his early success with songs written by others. He returned to the Top 10 with a self-penned protest song, Mr America, at a time when the Australian government was following US foreign policy, particularly regarding Vietnam.
