Wikipedia:
By 1961, Johnny O’Keefe was reaching the limits of his physical and mental endurance after suffering serious injuries in a 1960 car crash and a second unsuccessful tour of the United States. Given the severe head injuries he had sustained in the crash, it is also possible that O’Keefe was suffering from undiagnosed neurological trauma which may have affected his personality and contributed to his later mental health and drug issues.
However, Johnny’s run of Australian hits continued in spite of his mounting personal problems (after Shout in 1959, She’s My Baby in 1960 and Come On and Take My Hand, also 1960). I’m Counting on You became a #1 hit in 1961, followed Sing (And Tell The Blues So Long) and I Thank You, both in 1962.
