The Ballad of Jed Clampett was sung by Jerry Scoggins for the beginning of the Beverly Hillbillies TV series, with instruments played by Flatt and Scruggs. The version released as a single merges both the beginning and ending lyrics of the theme song of the weekly sitcom.
Flatt and Scruggs were singer and guitarist Lester Flatt and banjo player Earl Scruggs. The duo are viewed by music historians as one of the premier bluegrass groups in the history of the genre.
