Mushroom’s first album: ‘The Great Australian Rock Festival, Sunbury 1973’

After Mushroom Records formed in 1972 by Michael Gudinski and Ray Evans, their first ambitious album release featured performances from the second Sunbury Pop Festival in 1973.

The festival happened on the 27-29 January weekend; the triple live album called The Great Australian Rock Festival, Sunbury 1973 released just over two months later, on 6 April.

The album put Mushroom on the map as a key player in the Australian music industry, with the label eventually becoming one of the most successful and iconic labels in the country.
