Vocalist Derek St. Holmes, who had left Ted’s band during the recording of the album Free-for-All, had come back for touring in 1976 and was again the principal lead singer on the the Cat Scratch Fever album. It is the last studio album to feature bassist Rob Grange.
The song Cat Scratch Fever was named the #32 best hard rock song of all time in 2009 by VH1.
The song was covered by heavy metal band Pantera for Detroit Rock City‘s CD soundtrack. Nugent criticised the version, claiming, “It was exceedingly white. No soul, no balls, no feel. Caucasian all the way.”
