In early July 1962, two weeks after Get a Little Dirt on Your Hands entered the charts, Delltones lead singer Noel Widerberg was killed in a car accident in Sydney. This caused the remaining members to cancel all engagements, even as the song soared to chart success.
Colin Loughnan was a good friend of Delltones tenor vocalist Warren Lucas and Loughnan was recruited to take over lead vocals. After several weeks of rehearsal The Delltones entered the recording studio in November 1962 to record Come A Little Bit Closer, written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It became even bigger than Get A Little Dirt on Your Hands.
Around this time, Leedon released the band’s first self-titled album which included all previously released material with Widerberg. An album entitled Come A Little Bit Closer was also released to capitalise on the current hit single.

Lyrics:
Come a little bit closer and you will see
Yeah you’ll see I was meant for you dear and you were meant for me
Let our love grow stronger as the years go by
Let our love last longer than the stars in the sky
