There is a spark of hope that The Who, with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend on board, may return to Australia one last time.
Daltrey himself has dropped a hint in an interview for Rolling Stone magazine that The Who’s Song is Over farewell tour, which began last year, may finish in 2027 with some dates in the UK and Australia. The band last played here in 2009 when they performed at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne, as well as in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and the NSW Hunter Valley.
Touring is on hold for now because “Pete’s going to have another knee op, which puts him out of action for a long while,” Daltrey told the magazine. “And I’ve had a few things to deal with health-wise in the time off, but we’re hoping to finish it all off next year.”
They have already completed legs of the tour to other countries, including a final USA show last October at Thousand Palms, east of Los Angeles. If they hit the road and airways again next year, it will only be to UK locations and here in Australia. Don’t hold your breath though, as confirmation won’t come anytime soon.
