Marcia Shines is the debut studio album as a solo artist for American-Australian singer Marcia Hines. Born in Boston, Hines had been resident in Australia since 1970. After successful appearances in stage musicals Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar, Marcia worked with the Daly-Wilson Big Band before recording a solo album.
Marcia Shines was released in October 1975 and was the biggest selling album by an Australian female artist that year. In November 1976, Hines was given a platinum award for this album. It was the highest selling album by an Australian female artist at the time.
The opening track is a cover of James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, which was also Marcia’s debut single.
At the 1975 Australian Record Awards, the song won Hines Female Vocal Single of the Year.
