A song written by Australian producers and songwriters George Young and Harry Vanda, and recorded by Tina Turner for her classic album Private Dancer, has been found – 40 years after it was thought lost.
The song Hot For You, Baby was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and originally intended to be a track on the album. But it was ditched in favour of What’s Love Got To Do With It, Better Be Good To Me and the album’s title track.
A master tape of Hot For You, Baby was discovered as Capitol Records was working on a 40th anniversary re-release of Private Dancer. The 1984 recording was produced by John Grant, the record executive who masterminded Tina’s mid-career comeback.
The Vanda-Young song had already been recorded by Australia’s John Paul Young. However, his version largely flew under the radar when it was released in 1979.
