Love Letters in the Sand finds Pat Boone heartbroken over an unfaithful girlfriend as he remembers how they used to write each other love letters in the sand. That same year, he landed his first movie role in the comedy Bernardine, which featured the lovelorn tune along with the title hit.
In 1931, the song was recorded separately by Gene Austin, Lee Morse, and American dance band Ted Black and His Orchestra, with “Vocal refrain by Tom Brown” It was written by J. Fred Coots, who wrote the melody for Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, and lyricists Nick Kenny and Charles Kenny.
