Oh Yeah Uh Huh was originally recorded in 1958 by American R&B duo Mickey & Sylvia, aka Mickey Baker and Sylvia Vanderpool, who later became Sylvia Robinson.
Col Joye’s version in 1959 was recorded with his backing band, The Joy Boys, with additional vocals by the New Notes. It was the first Australian-made pop record of the rock era to reach #1 on the national charts.
The B-side was Living Doll, made famous the same year by Cliff Richard & The Drifters (later known as The Shadows).
Col Joye was an original member of the television program Bandstand, and appeared regularly on the show over a fourteen year period. He toured Australia with fellow acts from the program, including Judy Stone, the De Kroo Brothers, Sandy Scott and Little Pattie.
