Paul McCartney and Steve Winwood lend a hand on new Rolling Stones album

More than six decades after they first shook up the rock world, The Rolling Stones have once again proved they’re not ready to slow down. Foreign Tongues, the band’s 25th studio album, finds Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood in impressive form, blending fresh ideas with the unmistakable swagger that has defined the Stones for generations.

Alongside the core trio, long-time bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan help drive the sessions, while carefully preserved recordings of the late Charlie Watts appear on selected tracks, giving the album an added emotional connection to the band’s past.

The album was released on 10 July 2026 and producer Andrew Watt once again played a pivotal role. He not only steered the sessions but also contributed guitar and other instruments. Paul McCartney also used Watt for his 2026 release, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

McCartney is on the impressive guest list for this Stones album, along with Steve Winwood, Bruno Mars and Robert Smith, among others. McCartney, who plays bass on Covered in You (below), said he enjoyed seeing the Stones’ creative process up close and found it refreshing to be part of the band in the studio.

Ronnie Wood said that McCartney actually checked off a bucket-list item by playing on the record, laughing that McCartney said, “Now I can say I’ve played with The Rolling Stones. Wow!”.

Meanwhile, legendary English musician and songwriter Steve Winwood of Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith fame contributes organ, Rhodes and piano to eight of the album’s 14 tracks.

The album’s lead single, In the Stars (below), offered the first taste of the new record, while the soulful Jealous Lover (below) followed as the second single, reinforcing the band’s ability to mix classic rock with contemporary production.

Critics have largely hailed Foreign Tongues as another remarkable late-career achievement, with many calling it a worthy follow-up to Hackney Diamonds. Fans have also embraced the album, praising its energy, strong songwriting and the respectful inclusion of Charlie Watts’ final recordings.

For a band now well into its seventh decade, The Rolling Stones continue to show that they’re still capable of surprising audiences around the world.
