After decades of confusion, court fights and a version of the Canadian band touring without them, Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman have finally reclaimed the name The Guess Who.
For years, fans were seeing a line-up on the road that didn’t include the two men who wrote and sang the band’s biggest hits. Cummings and Bachman argued that audiences were being misled by what Burton called “the fake band”. In 2024 they reached a settlement that restored control of the band’s name to the classic-era creative forces behind it. For many longtime followers, it felt like justice had finally caught up with history. Scroll down for a video interview about what happened.
Now they’re taking it back — literally. The pair have announced a 2026 reunion trek under the Guess Who banner, their first tour together using the name in more than two decades. The Takin’ It Back tour kicks off in Canada in May, with major cities from Halifax to Vancouver on the itinerary. The setlist is expected to lean heavily on the classics: American Woman, Albert Flasher, No Time and more.
It’s being billed as a celebration, but it’s also something deeper — a reclaiming of legacy. After all the legal wrangling, Cummings and Bachman are once again front and centre, performing under the name they made famous in the first place.
