Sugar, Sugar written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim was originally recorded by the cartoon band the Archies.
The recording was the product of a group of studio musicians managed by Don Kirshner. Ron Dante’s lead vocals were accompanied by those of Toni Wine and Andy Kim. Together they provided the voices of the Archies using multi-tracking.

Songfacts:
According to Jeff Barry, he and Andy Kim wrote this song with preschoolers in mind since that was the audience for the Archie TV show (Barry had children aged 3 and 4 at the time). The “You are my candy girl” line came from them thinking about what kids that age like (candy!).
