Bev Harrell grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, and sang for the 5AD children’s radio show Kangaroos on Parade (age 6), appeared on Australia’s Amateur Hour (age 9), coming second, and came second on the radio/television show Swallow’s Juniors (age 12). Bev also toured with the Mickey Mouse Club when they were in Australia.
In 1965, Bev began performing with local bands such as the Harts and the Vibrants, before briefly joining the Clefs. She signed with the EMI record label and became a regular performer on television shows such as Bandstand, Kommotion, and Uptight.
Bev’s first single, What Am I Doing Here with You?, was previously recorded by Johnny Rivers on his album In Action. Bev’s version reached #1 in Adelaide and #12 nationally.
Bev went on to perform as a support act for artists such as Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, Winifred Atwell, the Rolling Stones and Roy Orbison. She released more records, performed for troops in Vietnam and toured the world.
