This song reminds me of my dad, he loved the Seekers and Judith.
The Loved One – The Loved Ones (1966)
An all time favourite of the very oldies.
Friday on My Mind – The Easybeats (1967)
My introduction to rock-type music.
Pictures of Lily – The Who (1967)
I remember giggling at this song when I read it was about a young boy becoming aware of his sexuality after his dad gave him pictures of Lily Bayliss to ‘ponder over’.
Eloise – Barry Ryan (1968)
Always loved this song.
Something in the Air – Thunderclap Newman (1969)
Another favourite.
Because I Love You – The Masters Apprentices (1970)
Great song.
Teach Me How to Fly – Jeff St John & Copperwine (1970)
Spirit in the Sky – Norman Greenbaum (1970)
Quite spiritual if you ‘believe’. Great beat, bit bluesy.
I’ll Be Gone – Spectrum (1971)
Classic song.
Eagle Rock – Daddy Cool (1971)
I do love all their music!
Evie (Pts 1, 2 & 3) – Stevie Wright (1974)
He did great after leaving the Easybeats. Loved these songs.
It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll) – AC/DC (1975)
What can I say! Classic Aussie band.
Stranger than Fiction – Split Enz (1975)
Many years ago I worked as a bar attendant at a Sylvania (NSW) pub. They played there before they were very well known. Also at Seabreeze Hotel at Blakehurst.
Rockaria! – Electric Light Orchestra (1976)
Great rock song, love this!
Telephone Line – Electric Light Orchestra (1977)
My favourite of ELO’s songs.
Khe Sanh – Cold Chisel (1978)
Love Jimmy and most of Chisel’s music. I was a cleaner for a while in Bowral and had cleaned his house a couple of times. I had to step over passed-out people! haha
Total Control – The Motels (1979)
Great song.
The House of the Rising Sun – The Animals (1964)
I don’t remember this song when it was originally released but my older sister used to play it. I love it!
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd (1975)
Absolutely love Pink Floyd. Have seen them in concert twice. I played this song at my son’s funeral (he was 23) in 2005. My kids grew up listening to all Pink Floyd music and loved it.
Ball and Chain – Janis Joplin (1968)
I was 10 years old when this song was released. I couldn’t believe how she sings from the heart and the emotion on display. She had a hard time growing up and was voted ‘most ugly’ in school which is awful. Such a powerful voice!
Almost Cut My Hair – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (1970)
Had the ‘Deja Vu’ album, loved all the songs on this album.
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – George Thorogood & The Destroyers (1977)
Wild boy George! Great live version.
July Morning – Uriah Heep (1972)
What a brilliant song… looking for love in the strangest places. Long song, goes for more than 10 minutes.
Winds of March – Journey (1978)
Brilliant band, loved all of their music. Had the ‘Infinity’ album. This was my favourite.
Children of the Revolution – T.Rex (1972)
I believe T.Rex found this song a flop, mainly because it didn’t reach number 1 and wasn’t as popular
as their other songs. I personally love it and giving power to the children.
Heroes – David Bowie (1977)
A love story about two lovers who couldn’t be together (was David’s friend while they were in Berlin). I love most of Bowie’s music and couldn’t do this list without naming him.
Perfect Day – Lou Reed (1972)
Had the ‘Transformer’ album, loved every track on this album.
Wasted Time – The Eagles (1976)
On the ‘Hotel California’ album, great song
Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin (1971)
Would have to be the best Led Zeppelin song of all time.
